Golden Gate Park

From Burden's Landing

Located between San Francisco's Richmond and Sunset neighborhoods.

Stow Lake

Great blue herons have been nesting in so called "Heron Island" since 1993. They usually come in late March and stay through June. Volunteers lead guided observations on Saturdays during this time, but you can easily see them yourself whenever.

Windmills

Dutch and Murphy Windmills on the west side of the park. At the turn of the 20th century, pumped 1.5 million gallons of water a day. Stopped operating in the 1930s. Several rounds of renovations between 1980 and 2011 to get them working around. Maintenance turns every Saturday between 10am-2pm weather permitting.[1] Here's what it looks like inside of Murphy Windmill.
