곤드레 (milk thistle) is native to 정선군. Mom and Jessica were touring 정선군 in October 2016, and their guide explained that locals supplemented rice with 곤드레 before the Korean War, because they were very poor, and rice was scarce. It turned out that 곤드레 is super healthy (and also delicious). They now grow 곤드레 on farms.

To prepare, soak the 곤드레 overnight, blanche it, then cook it with the rice in the rice cooker. Use a little less water than usual, because the greens have water.
