Santa Fe (May 2011)

From Burden's Landing

I'm heading to Santa Fe for a WiserEarth meeting, May 20-24, 2011. Decided to make a weekend out of it.

Itinerary / Travel Log

Friday, May 20

Dinner in Albuquerque. Sadly, when I arrived, all the good local eats were closed. Thank goodness for Cracker Barrel!

Drove to Santa Fe. Stayed at Santa Fe Suites.

Saturday, May 20

Santa Fe Farmer's Market in the morning.

Drove to Tesuque on the recommendation from someone at the Farmer's Market, who said I could find baskets and so forth at the Flea Market there. Yes, they had baskets there... from Pakistan. The Flea Market was disappointing, but I enjoyed the Glenn Green Sculpture Garden, which I discovered by accident. (At first, I went to Tesuque Village Market instead of the Flea Market by accident, and the sculpture garden was next door.)

Drove to Taos via 76, 75, and 518. Stopped in Chimayo.

76 goes through Truchas, and if you're not careful, you'll miss the turn through the city and head toward the mountains on a backroad. I know this firsthand:

Stayed at the American Artists Gallery House. Ate dinner at Orlando's New Mexican Cafe on the recommendation of Charles at the B&B.

Sunday, May 21

Drove to Arroyo Seco and the Taos Ski Valley. Then drove across the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. Visited the Earthships.

Drove back to Santa Fe. Lunch at El Parasol. Dinner at Cafe Castro.

Monday, May 22

7am meditation at the Upaya Zen Center.

Visit the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum.

Lunch at La Choza.

3pm -- Check in at Inn of the Governors.

4pm -- WiserGiving meeting.

Dinner at Cafe Pasquals.

Tuesday, May 23

7am -- Morning meditation at Upaya Zen Center.

9am -- WiserGiving meeting at Firestik office.
